AWS Data Engineer

The AWS Data Engineer is expected to play a pivotal role in operationalizing the most-urgent data and analytics requirements for Global Kellogg’s digital business initiatives. The AWS Data Engineer’s primary work would be in building, managing and optimizing data pipelines and then moving these data pipelines effectively into production for key data and analytics consumers (business/data analysts and data scientists). The ideal candidate would be an experienced data pipeline builder and data wrangler who enjoys optimizing data systems and building them from the ground up.

The AWS Data Engineer will be the key interface in operationalizing data and analytics on behalf of the business unit and organizational outcomes. This role will require both creative and collaborative working with IT and the wider business. We’re currently all virtual / remote, but eventually this role will sit in our Oak Brook / Naperville, IL area office, or Battle Creek, MI. Location of employee must be in IL or in MI.

HERE’S A TASTE OF WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

Build Data Pipelines: Manage data pipelines that consist of a series of data flow stages: from data sources or endpoints of acquisition to integration to consumption for specific use cases. Designing, creating and maintaining data pipelines will be a key responsibility for the Data Engineer.

The Data Engineer would be responsible for working with and optimizing existing ETL processes and data integration and data preparation flows and helping to move them in production using AWS Services such as EMR, Glue, SAP BODS, MS SQL, Oracle PL SQL

Drive Automation: The Data Engineer will be responsible for using innovative and modern tools and techniques to automate data preparation and integration tasks. You’ll drive automation through effective metadata management.

Collaborate Across Departments and Regions: The Data Engineer will work in close relationship with data science teams and with business data analysts in refining their data requirements for various data and analytics initiatives and their data consumption requirements. This role is a member of a global team who work with Offshore (India) Data Engineering COE.

YOUR RECIPE FOR SUCCESS

Required Skills:

  • High School Diploma or GED and related experience

  • Experience with development using AWS cloud services: S3, EMR, Lambda, Glue, Redshift & Athena

  • Experience with ETL to data warehouse systems

  • Expert in SQL, NoSQL, and RDBMS

  • Experience with large-scale data and query optimization techniques

  • Experience in Big Data technologies such as Hadoop, Hive, Spark, PySpark etc

  • Experience in Python scripting

  • Working non-core hours within a global team framework at times

    Bonus Points:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science or other related field

  • Good knowledge on data orchestration tools like Nifi, AWS Step functions

  • Knowledge of cloud, distributed systems, and stream-processing systems

  • Experience with predictive analytics tools like SAS, R and Machine Learning

  • SAP BODS

  • Understanding of CPG industry data

  • Knowledge of Unix
