Kellogg Senior Manager, Category Strategy in Naperville, Illinois

By executing category strategies across all or multiple Kellogg product categories, you will align with the customer’s priorities.   • Collaboration :

  • Partner with Sales Director and Sales Manager counterparts to close opportunity gaps with customers

  • Attend Customer meetings with a focus on planning and higher-level meetings

  • Pro-actively develop and sustain collaborative relationships with Kellogg customer business managers and sales management

  • External Analysis and Selling:

  • Strong understanding of drivers of business results

  • Proactively initiating Category Management activities with customers and developing innovative retailer solutions based on consumer insights to drive goals

  • People Leadership (Training and Management needs)

  • Train team to analyze sales data and deliver regular briefings and category reviews.

  • Close core distribution voids and ensure speed to shelf on innovation. Create fact-based selling stories that provide Kellogg’s the best opportunity to gain incremental total points of distribution

  • Provide recommended planogram placement of new items and Perfect Shelf initiatives utilizing key insights. Key initiatives include moving Pringles from the bottom to the top shelf, placing Rice Krispie Treats and Pop Tarts at eye level, striving for a minimum of 16 Cheez It skus and brand blocking the categories through the consumer decision tree.

  • Identify permanent secondary display locations in high traffic C-Store areas for all assigned customers. Demonstrate the dollar and profit opportunity for both Kellogg’s and the category based on historical channel lifts that will convince customers to place our core skus permanently in secondary locations.

  • Analyze promotional activity for assigned customers to understand the lifts and offer up recommendations that will improve promotional efficiency – Examples: increased display activity, optimal price points, bundling executions, timing of promotional activity

  • Internal Analysis and Insights :

  • Uncover business insights and sales opportunities that will accelerate retail growth

  • Support analytical ad-hoc data deep-dive requests

  • Monitor competitive activity

  • Recommend solutions to grow the category and Kellogg’s business.

  • Provide insights that are happening with Kellogg’s portfolio and the category leveraging Nielsen, customer specific data, IRI and Nielsen. Focus areas include dollar and unit trends, ACV reach, TDP trends, promotional activity, everyday retails vs. competition.



  • BA/BS Degree and significant related experience

  • CPG industry experience

  • Motor vehicle history with 2 or less moving violations within the last 36 months

  • Intermediate to advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills

  • Full use and application of data and panel from IRI or ACNielsen or other retailer data sources

    Bonus Points:

  • Experience within the Category Management field

  • Space planning and/or shelf merchandising experience

  • Customer interaction experience

  • Tactical and strategic experience in Category Management and/or Shopper Insights

  • Full use and application of analytics, principles, techniques and tools of Category Management

  • Proficiency in JDA and/or Apollo software

    Travel for this role is minimal (5%).

    Relocation will be offered. Preferred location is Battle Creek, MI but candidates may live in IL, OH, CA, CO, MN, KY, NJ and NC.
