Kellogg Employee Relations Specialist in Kentwood, Michigan

As an Employee Relations Specialist, you will work as part of the human resources team within Hire to Retire / Global Business Services. In this role, you’ll partner with various Kellogg North America (KNA) internal stakeholders to propel business growth by deploying human resources expertise. Using your exemplary problem-solving skills, you will provide solutions and recommendations to counsel business partners and employees, providing solutions and recommendations that align with our values and mitigate risk.

Candidates for this role should reside within commuting distance of our offices in Grand Rapids, Michigan, however, the role is primarily remote.


Case Management: As the HR subject matter expert, you’ll partner with people on discipline, performance improvement and separation documentation. With an expert eye, you’ll also track and interpret trends in employee relations to proactively identify issues, provide evidence-based recommendations, and develop solutions.

Policy Interpretation: As an Employee Relations Specialist, you will interpret employment policies and practices, research and investigate concerns from internal stakeholders, and provide coaching and recommendations to people leaders and employees in accordance with company policies, guidelines and applicable laws that effectively promote positive employee relations. You will also develop materials and deliver employee relations training on HR best practice across KNA.

Consulting: With the acumen of a trusted advisor, you will provide consultation to varying levels of management and organizational stakeholders regarding employee relations matters. This includes performance management, business conduct, terminations, restructures, and HR policies, guidelines and practices. You will also facilitate engagement activities such as stay interviews and analyze employee feedback and recommend action plans.



  • Associate's Degree or International Equivalent in Business, Human Resources, related field OR comparable relevant experience [5 years].

  • Ability to work independently with little to no supervision, handling issues through to conclusion.

  • Ability to think critically and solve problems; accurate attention to detail; work effectively with leaders and employees at all levels of the organization.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills indicative of the ability to convey information in an accurate, clear, and concise manner.

  • Ability to work through multiple employee relations issues simultaneously with an attention to detail identifying priority issues based on business need.

  • Ability to effectively manage a caseload of employee relations issues.

  • Ability to tailor approach appropriately based on situation.

  • Ability to travel for business-related activities.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

  • Knowledgeable of federal, state, and local employment and labor laws.

    Bonus Points:

  • Bachelor's Degree or international equivalent in Business, Human Resources, or related field.

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of cumulative direct employee relations experience.

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience managing employment-related cases to resolution.

  • HR certification (PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP).
